: Elaine, : Yes, Wilhelm's father was the GFM. I can provide additional information about the family. : Wilhelm von Hahnke (1793-1861) was ennobled in 1836 and died as a colonel. He had three sons: : Wilhelm (1833-1912), the GFM : Oskar (1835-1870), who was killed in the Franco-Prussian War : Gustav (1839-1874), who died as a captain. : Wilhelm ,the GFM, married Josephine von Bülow. Her brother Adolph became a General of Cavalry and commanded two Army Corps. Her brother Otto von Bülow was a confidant of Kaiser Wilhelm I. and later served as an emissary to the Vatican. : Wilhelm and Josephine had six sons : Wilhelm (1867-1931). He retired as a Major General, and was married to Gr. v. Schlieffen’s daughter : Albert (1869-1925) He retired as a colonel of infantry : Gustav (1870-1897). He joined the Navy and at the time he died he was serving on the Kaiser’s yacht. He had an accident while riding a bicycle, fell into a river and drowned. His Godfather was Kaiser Wilhelm II. : Oskar (1872-1926) He was a field artillery officer and was awarded the “pour le mérite”, Prussia’s highest order for bravery, in 1918.
