Elaine,

Alfred was one of three sons born to Magnus Graf von Schlieffen (08.04.1796-23.06.1890), a retired Major. It is remarkable that each of his sons were talented enough to make their way through the ranks and become General Officers. Here are the particulars on the sons:

Theodor Graf von Schlieffen (26.04.1831-13.07.1900). He rose to the rank of General der Kavallerie (General of Cavalry) No children from either of his two marriages

Alfred Graf von Schlieffen- married Anna Gräfin von Schlieffen. They had two daughters:
Elisabeth (13.09.1869-??) She married Wilhelm von Hahnke on 29.11.1904
Maria (09.07.1872) she became a nun.

Arthur Graf von Schlieffen (07.07.1844-04.09.1914) He rose to the rank of General Leutnant (Lieutenant General). He had one son and three daughters
